Accra, Ghana – August 13, 2025 — A fierce fire broke out around 5:20 p.m. on
Wednesday evening at Nogora Junction, close to Ho Technical
University in the Volta Region, destroying several businesses in its path.
Swift Spread and Extensive Damage
Flames quickly engulfed a well-known
pub and food joint, multiple boutiques, and adjacent shops housed in
container structures. The blaze produced thick black smoke visible from a
distance, drawing a crowd of onlookers, particularly students from the nearby
university.
Coordinated Fire Response
Responders from the Ghana
National Fire Service (GNFS), led by Senior Non-Commissioned Officer II
Michael Segbedzi, were promptly deployed from the Ho Municipal Fire Station,
with reinforcements from the GNFS Regional Headquarters. Their coordinated
efforts successfully contained and extinguished the fire in about two hours.
No Injuries, But Significant Losses
Fortunately, there were no casualties.
However, affected shop owners report substantial losses totaling more
than GHS 1 million. Two of the owners suspect that intermittent power
supply—commonly known as “dumsor”—may have triggered the blaze, noting power
fluctuations in the area before the fire erupted.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a formal
investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire. While some eyewitnesses
point to electrical faults linked to unstable power, GNFS officials have not
confirmed this and have urged patience until the assessment is complete.
